Sometimes the perfect backdrop for your headshot, or for your employees’ photos, is your place of business. Maybe your business is near a local landmark (or IS a local landmark!). Maybe your space reflects your branding in a way that’s hard to convey with a simple color choice. Maybe you sell a product that, on display behind your headshot, instantly explains your brand or business in a way that connects you with your potential clients.
But it can be hard to figure out a way to take high-quality, professional headshots on location. If it’s outside, you have to have the perfect weather every time you want to take a new photo. If it’s inside, getting the lighting right for both the backdrop and the human in front of it can be challenging, especially if you’re just using the lighting you have in your space.
Replacing the background of a studio headshot with a separate photo of your space could be the solution you need.
Background replacement with professional photos
Check out one company’s approach. One of the major elements of their branding is the iconic tower on their main building. They’ve incorporated it into their name and logo, and into other buildings they’ve built as they’ve expanded.
The company had us take professional, high-quality photos of the outside of their building, including several different shots of their tower. Now they have multiple options available to place in the background of their employee headshots. This gives their staff webpage a feeling of unity without them being exactly the same.

We create studio headshots with consistent lighting and professionally-guided posing and expressions. We then use photo editing software to combine the studio portrait with the background photo.
Background replacement with photos client-provided photos
Another option is for the client to provide their own well-lit photos. We can then use those photos to replace the background. Check out Tracy’s headshots using her own background photos. It’s a great alternative that can allow you to save some money by taking your own photos, but still get the benefit of professional editing. It also gives you flexibility to use photos that contain something you want to include (like a busy scene with lots of customers, or light coming through the windows at a certain time of day) that might be hard to schedule for.
